第一次写的Task 2 麻烦各位高人指教

这个是剑6 test1里的,题目是:
Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
以下是我写的作文,烦请各位指正。
In present-day society, advertisements can be seen everywhere, such as on TV, at the bus stop and in a newspaper, which aim at persuading consumers to buy their products. However, to what extent can they achieve it? In my opinion, although companies spend a lot of money on them, the influence is limited, as people purchase goods that they need at present or in near future rather than they see in advertisements.

The ability of thinking differentiates humanity from the other animals, which means that people are able to judge what is in demand and then they take it home as a result. That is to say that advertising has little impact on human’s decision. Except for people’s need, price may also influence people as they tend to buy the cheaper one among goods of the same quality. For example, no matter how many functions can an IBM laptop afford, a student maybe choose an ASUS or an HP who may accomplish not as much work as an IBM can but charges for a lot less.

However, we have to admit that advertisements enable products to draw people’s attention and make a deeper impression on them than those without advertisements. For instance, when two brands of shampoo in a supermarket are both unknown to you at almost the same price, you may choose the one that you have seen in an advertisement. For girls like me, such a situation probably occurs while buying cosmetic goods and so as cigarettes for boys, I suppose.

As a consequence, we can come to the conclusion that advertising possibly impacts consumers to some extent; however, people make their decisions mostly according their real demand rather than an attractive advertisement.
