这里其实不是考 than，而是考词语搭配。speeds 在这个语境必须用 at 而不能用 with。因为是 higher，所以要用 than 而不是用 as。那就只剩下 D 和 E 了。D 不是错，但是不顺。通常英语的定语如果长一点就放在名词后面更好。所以 at speeds much higher than 比 at much higher speeds than 通顺得多。
Than 后面一般是省略重复部份的。不省略就很古怪。这里把省略部份放回去就是 at speeds much higher than the speeds that are currently possible. 但是没有人这样写的，说就当然更加没有了。 多谢多谢。那么也就是说：
1、much higher 算是长的定语
2、如果D所错之处不在于省略,那么这里的that和are可以省略任何一个，或者同时省略
这样理解是否正确？ 是的，much higher 有点长。放在前面不是不可以，就是有点不自然。
at much higher speeds than that currently available 这里就是省略得不对。如果要省，就把 that 和 is 一同删去，或是像 E 那样删。（at much higher speeds than the speeds that are currently available 和 at much higher speeds than the speed that is currently available 都可以，看实际情况来决定。）现在不删 that，就必须在后面有动词，因为前面没有 is 来沿用。 有点晕了，想再请教一下，如按主语谓语一起省略的原则，对E选项补充成分以后的省略应该是这样:at speeds much higher than the speeds 【that are】 currently possible。也就是把 that are省掉。然后因为speeds重复，我把它换成those 或者 that, 那不是变成 ： at speeds much higher than that currently possible, 这样一来，不是 和 D 一样了么？除了 much higher 的位置不同外。 at speeds much higher than that currently possible 这个 that 现在有歧义。虽然可以用来代替 the speed，但也可能是 that is currently possible 或是 that are currently possible 那个 that。而后者是更可能，因为 the speed 一般是省略了的，不必用 that 或 those 来代替。
因此 than that currently possible 就给人漏了 is 或 are 的感觉，那就很不好了。所以要省就通通省掉，变成 at speeds much higher than currently possible。这样在口语里面是常出现的，但是在写作里面还是像 E 那样好。 多谢大牛指点，您的意思我大概清楚了。在这个省略的尺度方面，我还需要慢慢体会 又想了想，觉得 that这个词很有问题。that没有指代对象啊::51

D 那个 that 是指 speeds 或 speed 的。 我觉得D里面，that在这里指代中心词的可能性也有，所以就错了，这么理解对么？ 就是说指代对象不明确，有可能是这样的或那样的，所以不对的，这么理解对么？页:
