IlfLb4Z[ Excited by the idea of becoming a scientist since I was a small child, my  
"w&n/T:a~#] interests in pursuing graduate studies intensified during my undergraduate   e`:Oc3J6rd"B3R
education and my research experience. Rather than discouraging me with the  
;G8]x"p#k$?](]~ tremendous amount of work and demands for creativity, my college years  "Ze)~-FS

motivatedme to earn a Ph.D. and to continue pursuing a career as a research  O/r?9MT M^n
scientist. Although my exact research goals have yet to be refined, my  
Zc"z0{z2J interests include studying the genetic basis of disease and the genetic  Z Y0]0{:L/g!_;_
mechanisms that govern various cellular processes, such as the cell cycle,  W2V3u]sa
apoptosis, and tumor formation. (buWGw`#X%W4r3G"a
Although I entered college without a clear research direction, the  :kzyO2a;XD*W
Biotechnology Program at Rochester Institute of Technology helped develop  HzVF$fp H
my interest in the field of Genetics. I found much of my laboratory  
S9KToe1o training at RIT to be extremely rewarding. For example, one experience that  
A?'oL/cY`7s early on convinced me to seriously consider genetics was a project   hluJ9Qk#M
involving the construction and characterization of a recombinant plasmid.  /G{j+h;l8`y!hW
Since I worked independently for the most part, the project played a key  8KA6OL!sJ'm
role in increasing my confidenceand helping me to understand various  
Q;C7n&m([tO/H9B3l concepts pertaining to genetic analysis. It was this experience that  $@ A:s#f!J9~
motivated me to seek a position as a teacher's assistant for a course in  
7k,["["L/T3G:^5F0nk Microbial and Viral Genetics. As a TA, I learned how demanding the teaching  
_oe7U)Or situation is and how much teaching a course can contribute to my own  0\)]\jRFq/ex
learning.By this time, after discovering my passion for research and the  l_.Z|Ej5L
joy of teaching, I began to seriously contemplate graduate schools. To  T"jl'e&e._}h
excel in graduate school, I decided I would not limit my experience to my  
6ua`G:I!b)S formal education at RIT. Instead, I wanted the opportunity to explore my  Q~9y4j0Es"GL'VC;PN
career options to make a well-informed decision as to the area of my future  ,C)f zq8L+FB ]1|
research. With these goals in mind, I chose to take advantage of RIT's  n#I$ERAJqT!@
Cooperative Education Program, which meant earning my Bachelor' s degree in

In December of 1997, Astra Arcus USA Pharmaceuticals hired me as a  
Z z#G7Rd#[
M&B0G researchassistant in the Electrophysiology department.
r8KdH+X1D6LB At Astra, I learned research techniques not taught by RIT. For the past  
&h]@#y9GT`'`2VT year, I have been working with a subset of neuronal glutamate receptors via  9Ul9n}@
voltage clamping on Xenopus oocytes. The research of our lab is geared  #G*T6zqA*z8r1D(R0ST
toward the study of central nervous system diseases. Working with Astra and  F.t{3wH6~/iY-S5^
earning an education in biotechnology from RIT sparked my interest in  
lP+y(GZ-r U)I.i3R learning more about the genetic basis of disease. P/_[Qo&]

On a personal level, I've gained quite a bit from my cooperative  { [-ila U\&d!S0\,[@
experience.Confident in my ability to adapt to new environments and learn  

UXi1^5s#Q techniques that I have never encountered, I have also learned a great deal  
.U5pQk-Hi about the nature of private-sector research and the lifestyle of the  
&`l4|s8{)r/h{ s8SG}v researchers. Familiar with the amount of dedication and hard work essential  t7a)|7H4Y(fr
to project advancement, I am more focused on my goal of becoming an  
2p#\'z2e"]H~ excellent researcher than I ever have been. No stranger to the frustration  S&x.r9H J"F

and disappointment inherent in research work, I am spurred on by the thrill  4k!pSw]#HG,v
of discovery. I find a great deal of enjoyment working in research and plan  
S AK,zzU to stay at Astra through the summer of 2005. L:?Q2{I
I feel that my course work as a Biotechnology major at RIT and my research  
!S:QoX%Y6l%S.Xa~ experience at Astra have adequately prepared me for graduate study. Eager  
^"wo i&CI3h5_%d tocontinue my education and improve upon my weaknesses, I am particularly  *A5_%E&i,^9`
interested in becoming more familiar with emerging technologies relating to  1]5N_F2Q-}h
genetics and in gaining more exposure in working with eukaryotic genomes.  
6r+[u;whq Most importantly, I want to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to

(w!IA9C0~3d tUyr perform research according to my interests in genetics and disease.
[rT9B u+g9x(Q1d e With these broad interests and specific goals, I am very attracted to the  
x\`VE-j_'I0Ew Graduate Program in Genetics at Duke University. With great flexibility in  
G$?\"dH ib9ds choosing a degree, the program would suit me well. At Duke, I would welcome  !kx }9d,h#wf

e nq+Z [ur2P0Le opportunity to explore my interests in Cell Biology, Neurobiology,  
$m,t3R2Z'B-g+E^ Pharmacole involvement with the Duke Center for Human Genetics. My

dedication to research. I feel that these attributes, combined with a

不过倒是提醒我了，有很多的PS是这种类型的包括我自己的。的考虑怎么写才能吸引人了。
