It tooke me more than a year to get maybe 80% of what the Canadian's words during conversation. I think it's normal and you don't have to be so upset about it. Just make more phone calls, and if you can't understand the other side, just ask the other person to repeat what just has been said. Or you can say you are from China and you'd really appreciate if the other person could speak slowly instead. Practice more, you'll be fine. Thank you very much, you are nice Don't worry about whether people will get annoyed if you ask them to repeat themselves too much. If they do, tell them your name is PigHead3 instead of flybird and then they will hate PigHead3! Don't you think it is a perfect idea?::p7[ 本帖最后由 Pharm.D 于 2007-1-23 18:46 编辑 ] it is a good idea, ahah

Don't fret too much. I'm Canadian and I don't yet understand everything they say, in French at least. I've spoken French for 18 years and it was only this year that I was able to make out any of Québec TV French. I doubt I could follow regular conversation in Québecois. It's been about four months that I've made an effort to understand Québecois and I've still got progress to make. So, four months seems to be an awfully short time to learn to process a completely foreign language.V.ZB&e7A G.{hv
The truth is that as you hear more and more of the language you can anticipate how to finish words and expressions and thus understand it faster. It's not that big of a deal to ask people to slow down or to repeat something because you don't fully understand the language.

Well, others might misunderstood pighead3 with some sort of pork...so it might be better to tell them your name is Pharm.D instead::z5回复 #4 Pharm.D 的帖子

They will misunderstand it with some sort of academic degree. I strongly believe that PigHead3 is better! it's really frustrating if you can't understand the words they said. See my roomate got a friend from Sydeny,Australia. But the accent of his ,as far as i concerned, which so weired that i can only answer back by graping the key words of the sentence.::z8 Thank God I don't have any English-accented people around me. British English is Greek to me! I really admire you for you have such a good chance to communicate with native speaker, so just to try and may be you will feel adaptive.
