The Elements of Style

[font=Times New Roman][size=3][color=teal][font=宋体]比较经典的一本写作指导书[/font](PDF[font=宋体]清晰版本[/font]),[font=宋体]其实讲的都是很基本的一些东西，但是不注意这些，恐怕也难以写出地道的英文，大家共同学习！[/font][/color][/size]

[size=3][color=blue][font=宋体]Ⅰ[/font] Elementary rules of usage[/color][/size]

1 From the possessive singular of noun with’s[/size]
[size=3]
2 In s series of three or more term’s with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last [/size]
[size=3]
3 Enclose parenthetic expressions between commas[/size]
[size=3]
4 Place a comma before and or but introducing an independent clause[/size]
[size=3]
5 Do not join independent clauses by a comma [/size]
[size=3]
6 Do not break sentences in two[/size]
[size=3]
7 A participial phrase at the beginning of a sentence must refer to the grammatical subject[/size]
[size=3]
8 Divide words at line-ends, in accordance with their formation and pronunciation [/size]
[size=3]

[size=3][font=宋体][color=blue]Ⅱ [/color][/font][color=blue]Elementary principles of composition[/color] [/size]

9 Make the paragraph the unit of composition: one paragraph to each topic[/size]

10 As a rule, begin each paragraph with a topic sentence; end it in conformity with the beginning[/size]

11 Use the active voice[/size]
[size=3]
12 Put statements in positive form[/size]
[size=3]
13 Omit needless words [/size]
[size=3]
14 Avoid a succession of loose sentences[/size]
[size=3]
15 Express co-ordinate ideas in similar form[/size]

16 Keep related words together[/size]
[size=3]
17 In summaries, keep to one tense[/size]
[size=3]
18 Place the emphatic words of a sentence at the end [/size]
