! e8 ]8 b( `# [0 dDespite the disagreement about the “truly understand” and “distinctly different”, I agree with the importance of the personal knowledge about different culture in understanding one’s own culture by reflecting the difference, lightening the dim side of culture to stimulate the culture evolution.2 ^" X. |3 Q+ ]* ~1 F1 U
As a threshold matter, I want to point out no one can not truly understand his own culture. Culture is existing during our daily life which is functioning without human consciousness. We can’t tell why something is going on in this way, why we all behave to obey the same rule, but we just do it. There is a progress, I think, during which we are assimilated by our culture without the truly understand. With the purpose to cognize the progress and function of the entire culture, the scholars never come to an agreement in the definition of culture who try to abstract something most essential and vital that can identify the culture in their investigation about the distinct ideology, society structure, technology, art works, etiquette, culture code, taboo and so on.

Despite the purpose to truly understand one’s own culture, the knowledge about different culture indeed play an important role in cognize one’s own culture. As I had mention, the culture always are functioning unconsciously, which can only be reflect when it was compare with other culture. For example, china has traditional memorial ceremonies to the dead ancestor, holding in the ancestral hall, which is regard as the most important and common issue in china. Every family who has the same ancestor should bring the delicious food to the ancestral hall, which are regard as have the good wish given by the ancestor after the pray, will be eaten after the ceremony. When compared to the ceremony holding in the church, the traditional ceremonies reflect the special idea to the family tie. 4 V$ z2 h8 ~& u9 {4 Y% x

The second function of the knowledge about different culture is enlightening the dim side of the culture to stimulate the culture evolution. Every culture is not perfect, which may cause the most inhuman and savage affair in the history. China has a long history to be a centralizing and autocratic empire, which generate a special culture with splendid achievement and dim side like the worship about power. Since qing dynasty, a group of Chinese studied abroad sent by government or using they own money and brought the western culture especial the science technology and the democratic spirit. This is the most important affair in the Chinese history which brought the Chinese culture a new life and stimulated its evolution.$ m; X5 n+ b7 L7 }

The last question is about the “distinct difference”. Tolstoy criticized that people like to give the cultures different identities, which would be turned down by the force of love. Every culture has the different parts which may cause conflict and crash, but I believe under the distinct external difference, the cultures have more similarity than the difference. I think it is the most important idea we should bear when comparing two cultures, which will help to cognize the culture more precise.8 K! \% h( N7 }
