4 W; M! t) g+ W. e7 t& fFrom 2008, the ACS is offering an exciting new program for former international students who have graduated from a university within Australia and are seeking permanent residency./ ?3 O/ x- Q! \1 V8 p2 X
The ACS Professional Year (PYear) Program provides an additional pathway from university to employment within Australia offering a 12 month ‘job-readiness’ program to equip you with the professional skills needed for a successful career in the Australian workforce, including:
" w: E& b2 S( X- D+ F; d
  • up to 12 months of practical training and workshops
  • a 12 week ‘hands-on’ internship with a host company
  • access to networking opportunities and professional development as a graduate member of the Australian ICT industry’s professional body
  • on successful completion of a Professional Year program specified by the Minister a participant may be awarded 10 points under the General Skilled Migration points test.

This one-day workshop will help you to assess your work capabilities and provide you with insights into work and job availability in Australia.  After just one day, you’ll have a better understanding of your value to Australian employers.) F. N8 a& v1 A$ n1 j* K8 ]
Australian workplace culture
( ?) e; c8 u' q5 W2 ODuring this intensive training course (130 hours either part or full time), you’ll learn about common work practices and values operating in Australia companies.  You’ll discover the ins and outs of the Australian workplace and how to:

  • develop a career plan
  • write a resume
  • perform effectively in interviews
  • understand and respond to employers' expectations
  • understand occupational health and safety guidelines
  • contribute positively to workplace diversity.
Business/professional communication
# H/ C  }# j4 _# n: LEmployers in Australia most often look for former international students who are skilled in business and professional communications. This module of work will provide you with practical skills to communicate successfully with people at all levels in the Australian workplace.
+ B) |" H! i9 l' \" q9 X0 ODuring this 130-hour (part or full time) module, you’ll learn how to chair and participate in meetings, write reports and other documents relevant to the workplace and give presentations to work colleagues, managers and clients.

One of the most valuable aspects of the ACS PYear; you’ll gain 220 hours of practical ICT workplace experience in a well-respected company.

Professional element

C* SAfter completing this online, 130 hour module of work, you’ll take away understanding of the risk management, legal requirements, service obligations and ethical standards you’ll need to operate in the Australian workforce.  You’ll also learn how to apply your university knowledge to solve practical problems in the workplace.
3 Q6 }% q5 F( K2 i6 C) tWhat’s more, the ACS PYear will also connect you with ICT professionals around Australia through ACS networking events.  You’ll learn professional networking skills and gain valuable industry contacts.
5 b) Q8 o1 W3 ^: E$ mEnding boot camp
, w8 g4 a! i8 `" X% Z2 F3 zThe final boot camp will be a chance for assessment and celebration!  You’ll take part in mock interviews and present your career plans, CVs, capability statements, portfolios and job applications complete with covering letter for the dream job in a company of your choice.  Then you’ll toast success with your fellow PYear graduates and meet and mingle with prospective employers and colleagues at the graduation ceremony.

The ACS recommends a PYear fee of $11,200 for 2008. This price may vary slightly depending on the institution delivering the program. 7 ^: p2 s) m3 c& e

1. What is the Professional Year (PYear) in Computer Sciences? The Professional Year (PYear) in Computer Sciences is a 12 month ‘job-readiness’ program introduced to assist former international students obtain relevant workplace skills in their chosen occupation and effectively increase their employment skills and employability, and in turn helping to address Australia’s skill shortages in the ICT industry. $ x* Y8 [; r9 M0 s
2. Is the PYear in Computer Sciences Program only open to Computer Science Graduates? 4 t* `6 g2 k% g
No. ‘Computer Sciences’ is an umbrella term used to cover the many ICT streams open for study in accredited Australian universities’ courses.

The Australian Computer Society is the only provider gazetted by the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship to provide a Professional Year (PYear) in Computer Sciences for former international ICT in Australia.3 g# m4 }+ C* f
4. Are there providers of professional year programs in other professional fields?

5. Who can apply to do the ACS PYear Program?
( l9 n, ], }% F* MThe ACS PYear is a job-readiness program aimed at former international ICT students who have been issued a 485 Skilled Graduate Visa. Holders of Bridging Visa A may also apply for entry into the PYear.* V- {* p4 i- A

7. Does completion of the ACS PYear Program guarantee permanent residency?
% R" ^/ u- Y2 I, V! K- INo, but a person who successfully completes the ACS PYear may be awarded 10 points under the General Skills Migration points test.: s9 d1 c5 y* I9 \! y
Points can only be awarded for professional year courses that have been specified by the Minister. The ACS PYear in Computer Sciences is the only professional year program in ICT specified by the Minister. 3 S( U4 e$ [4 S+ Y( \1 i
8. Can I relocate to undertake the PYear?

10. How is the PYear Program structured?

靠延长在校时间来满足移民要求是一个妥协的方法,尽量不走这条路,靠自己的能够去争取自己应得的。

不怎么喜欢monash,master雅斯有些科目要求高的很过分,总分7不说,每项不低于6.5。这不是变相给语言学校创收么?

学校开设PROFESSIONAL YEAR还是很谨慎的,不知道能够有多少485签证持有人回去读这个课程,寻找工作就真的难的非要逼迫申请人去完成这个1年的培训?

相比于读完BACHELOR再读一年MASTER来挣10分,个人感觉还是PYEAR比较有实际意义,毕竟里面有220 hours of practical ICT workplace experience

顶楼上的说法,如果想通过读一个本科加一个硕士学位的人来说还不如直接本科毕业了就去PYEAR.
* P7 N9 n5 l: j: b$ @$ m2 C: J但是对于我们这些只到澳洲来读master的人来说情况就不一样了,能考4个7尽量考吧,虽然这里考4个7真的很困难
