这是我第二篇托福TWE习作，望多多指教。
Prompt: If you could study a subject that you have never had the opportunity to study, what would you choose? Explain your choice, using specific reasons and details.

Learning is a wonderful exploration of knowledge and through learning, I have gain the knowledge of how atoms make up the world, how DNA controls life, and many other natural science facts. However, I have never had an opportunity to study literature. From the personal perspective, studying literature can enable me to obtain deeper knowledge of the Chinese cultures, to gain a better understanding of the foreign cultures and to get a clearer view of the real life. So if I could study one subject I’d never touched before, I’ll definitely choose to study literature.

First of all, by studying literature, I can acquire a deeper and more thorough knowledge the Chinese culture. From the literature works which are hundreds of even thousands of years ago, I can discover the development of the Chinese language, for example, how one character evolve into many new ones. Also during the reading on ancient life, I will be able to find out the origins of many current customs: the use of chopsticks, the celebration of the spring festivals, etc. I can have a more vivid idea of Chinese history from the study of literature.

Second, I think learning about foreign literature can provide me with a chance to understand better of cultures of different countries. Through the reading of English fictions, I shall improve my reading skills, for example the use of vocabulary and the creative way of expressing ideas. Reading the literature works of great men can enhance not only my language skills but also my understanding of the foreign history. By reading Homer, I’ll learn the influence of Aegean civilization; by reading Dante and Shakespeare, I’ll come to value the significance of Renaissance; by reading Kafka and Vigil Woolf, I’ll be able to grasp the development of modern society.

Last but not least, studying literature will offer me a clearer view of real life. During literature study, I will learn to analysis the characters through the words he speaks and the actions he talks. This in turn will help me to have a better view of people’s personalities in the daily life. Not only that, through the extensive reading, I can gain access to the minds of great thinkers, and their opinions on life, job, wealth, family, friendship, and love can teach me to live a better and meaningful life.
In short, learning literature can help me understand better of both Chinese and foreign cultures, as well as gaining the more lucid view of real life. So had I the opportunity, I would choose to study literature.
