Cs are mammals,for a number of features of them show their affinities with land mammals.However,it is not obvious how was the gap between the two species.Missing until recently were the fossils intermediate between them.
The fossil found in 1979 consists of a complete skull of the oldest whale,P.The skull showed experts that P is a transitional form between land and sea mammals.
Another discovery,made in 1987,is several skeleton of another early whale,B,which lived 12 million years after P.B is undoubtedly a full marine whale with vestigial legs.
An even more exciting find,the fossil of A,was reported in 1994.A lived 3 million years after P but 9 million before B.Its hind leg is not only the major means of locomotion in water,but is functional on land as well.Definitely,A is a whale that linked the life on land with life at sea.
