美丽心灵作文小组 第四次作业 argument194

TOPIC: ARGUMENT 194 - A recent study suggests that people who are left-handed are more likely to succeed in business than are right-handed people. Researchers studied photographs of 1,000 prominent business executives and found that 21 percent of these executives wrote with their left hand. So the percentage of prominent business executives who are left-handed (21 percent) is almost twice the percentage of people in the general population who are left-handed (11 percent). Thus, people who are left-handed would be well advised to pursue a career in business, whereas people who are right-handed would be well advised to imitate the business practices exhibited by left-handers.

The researcher advocates that people who are left-handed would be well advised to strive for a better career in business with distinct advantage, but right-handed fail to own. To support this argument, the author cites the study from photographs and considers that certain relationship between left-handed and genius of business. While not be well-present.

The first worthy attention is the survey covered people whose information lend to incredible evidence. The people studied must be representative of overall population of people who write, it is well-known that objects involved, for any survey, always render a circumstance that the more, and the better convincing result is. In addition, the argument provides no information about what percentage of left-handed is large enough, perhaps, taking on a career in business in the right-handed people of 79 percent cover more than left-handed. Although the percentage of people left-handed looks apparently twice the percentage of people in the general population who are left-handed, the second survey exists the same pity like pointed out above.

Another fundamental point worthy considering is as it stands this evidence is far too vague to support the author's conclusion. It is from photographs that the research draws this conclusion, which hardly convinces us. Many possibilities exist in a photograph, such as to pose a gesture and so on. I concede that people in the photograph can reflect their left-handed, however, no information cited the ability of using left-hand is inherent, not develop acquired. If the later, there are not essential relationship between left-hand used and genius on business.

The third problem involves an absurd statement that is which hand to be used to write can decide careers of people’s future. The future careers of any people determinate by other factors containing interest, diligence, and so forth. To provide this point lacks of medical tests. Moreover, people strive for success accompany with many other advantages apart from genius. Thus it is necessary to inquiry other relative information about left-handed people, whether left-handed people result in success whose reason is to use left-hand by accident. In short, without better evidence that these people become successful by the reason of using left-hand.

In sum, the author cannot justify the conclusion based on scant evidence provided in the research. To better evaluate the reliability of research upon which the author's conclusion depends. I would need to know more information on people involved, and the author had better provide a medical test to justify a relationship between using left-hand and success to convince us.
